I do not wear makeup and rarely get a manicure, so I did not initially know what to do with all the fingernail polish I got at a garage sale. There was about 50 full bottles with colors ranging from pink to black. What I really wanted was the chest the bottles were in. The east coast lost power in 2012. During the power outage I was looking in the garage for some flashlights and ran into the nail polish. I had totally forgotten it. The next morning I was left looking for stuff to do outside because the heat was unbearable inside.
It hit me that we could use the nail polish as paint. I got some water glasses and we all sat down and started painting the glasses. We had a wonderful time. We sat in the shade of a tree and laughed at artistic ability, or rather the lack of it. We still have our glasses and I can recognize who did which glass easily. Rebecca always drew flowers. David drew blood and guts. I have put the glasses we created that day upstairs in the attic. It is my hope one day to give them to my grandchildren and tell them the story of the week without electric.
